Introduction

Fire and metal go together like… well, like fois gras and sauterne! At Cowboy Cauldron Company, we LOVE fire, so it stands to reason that we also love cooking with it – and especially with cast iron – the ultimate cooking material.

If you’ve spent time around a Cauldron, you know that “Good Enough” generally isn’t, at least for us. We demand, and deliver, absolute perfection. The cast iron made today is, by and large, mediocre at best. It is made with low-quality metal, has large pores, uneven heat distribution, and a host of other ills.

To meet out needs, and those of our customers, we scour the country to find classic antique cast iron cookwear and other fire or cooking-related tools that are truly worthy of use on a Cauldron. Then we restore, season, and ACTUALLY COOK WITH IT before we reluctantly offer it for sale.

Care & Feeding of Cast Iron

Cast iron intimidates people. That’s just wrong. Cast Iron is the most user-friendly material ever, if you just understand a few simple guidelines. Think of it as a great dog. All it takes is a little training to bring out the potential, and turn it into a trusted companion and aid. We have put together an illustrated guide that will show you the principles you need to get the most out of this remarkable cookwear. Learn More

Are You Worthy?

We are sticklers for perfection in everything we do. Consequently, the pieces you find here are here for a reason. First, only the very best, most functional, or most unique pieces make it through our initial vetting process. Pieces that are warped, pitted, or of mediocre quality don’t cut it.

But the real distinction is that we don’t sell a piece of cast iron or an antique implement until we have cooked on it and used it ourselves. When you receive one of our pieces, you know that one of the Cowboy Cauldron staff has not only inspected it, but put at least one meal through it to make sure that it does, in fact, meet our standards.

If you buy one of our pieces, we hope that you treat it with the love and respect it is due. Cast iron is easy to care for, but like many things in life, will suffer from abuse and neglect. Please don’t be the end of the line for these magnificent, heirloom creations. If you are going to do that, please do it to a piece of Chinese cast iron from Wal-Mart. They deserve to die.
